The rested leverage arms behind Gilbert matter just as much as the starting matchup. Seattle does not need to control all nine innings for this ticket; it needs to avoid the multi-run separation that the park, travel spot and pitching plans all work against.
The main danger comes if Gilbert repeats his inefficient Milwaukee command and exposes the Mariners’ thinner middle relief. Rucker’s workload, Brash’s absence and the unsettled shortstop picture leave less protection if the game becomes messy.
