Grant Holmes is listed as the Braves' probable starter. Arizona attacked him early last Saturday, and he failed to complete the fourth inning. The collapse interrupted what had been an extended run of wins in his starts and a strong Miami outing.
Walt Weiss told MLB.com: "Find something that puts a chip on your shoulder. I don't care what it is, but you're going to need that in this league." Holmes responded that night, which is why the bounce-back risk is real.
But the practical issue is the bullpen. Dylan Dodd has appeared on consecutive days, and Victor Mederos, Dylan Lee and Ray Kerr all worked Wednesday before the flight from Minneapolis to Chicago. Raisel Iglesias should be available, though his recent outings have included traffic and runs.
Against a left-handed starter, Lane Thomas should have a stronger claim to the lineup, alongside Ronald Acuña Jr., Austin Riley and Ozzie Albies. That is enough right-handed pop to punish mistakes if Kay falls behind.
Exposed Park and a Warm Afternoon

Holmes is not without a rebound case. His Miami start after Weiss's challenge was excellent, and the Braves' high-leverage arms could be fresher than the usage pattern suggests. That is the main risk.
But the White Sox also hold the scheduling edge. They move from Wrigley to their own park and stay home, while the Braves play a third city in three days with several bridge relievers already taxed.
